Since 2011, the Bilan Carbone® methodology has been the French reference for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting and reduction.
Until now, the training was only available in French. That is no longer the case.
In partnership with IFC.D (Carbon & Sustainability Training Institute), ABC is making two training packages available in English, accessible from anywhere, at your own pace.
IFC.D handles delivery and participant support, while ABC provides the methodology, the content, and the official tools.
The package covers the fundamentals: the principles and objectives of the methodology, the stages of a carbon assessment, organisational and operational boundaries, stakeholder engagement, carbon accounting, transition planning, and reporting.
An Energy & Climate module completes the picture (greenhouse effect, climate science, energy-related emissions).
This package includes interactive activities and a final quiz. A certificate of completion is issued at the end of the course. The official calculation tools are not included.
By the end of this package, you will understand the principles and objectives of the Bilan Carbone® methodology, you will be able to identify the main stages of a carbon assessment and distinguish between organisational and operational boundaries, and you will be familiar with the concepts of carbon accounting, transition planning and their links with the GHG Protocol.
This package covers the whole Discovery Package, then moves on to hands-on work with the official Bilan Carbone® V9 tools: emission categories, data collection, calculation methods, methodological choices and uncertainty management.
A case study runs throughout the package.
The training includes one year of access to the official tools and a small-group live Q&A session with an expert trainer. A certificate of completion is issued at the end of the course.
By the end of this package, you will be able to use the official Bilan Carbone® V9 calculation tools, structure a GHG inventory, collect and analyse your data, manage uncertainty, interpret your results, and start building a transition plan.
Professionals who want to understand and practise carbon accounting: management teams, CSR and sustainability teams, finance, purchasing, supply chain, and more broadly anyone involved in their organisation’s climate work.
No prerequisites are required.
It is the first question organisations ask internationally, and both packages address it.
The GHG Protocol is the reference standard for emissions reporting: it allows organisations to disclose their emissions in a way that is comparable from one country and one sector to another. The Bilan Carbone® is built on a different logic, that of action: the reduction process is an integral part of the methodology, from framework to transition plan.
The two do not compete, they answer different questions. This is why the Bilan Carbone® tools allow exports in GHG Protocol format, and why we follow the standard’s developments in order to align with it wherever possible.
Training in the Bilan Carbone® does not replace your reporting obligations: it gives you what you need to act on the results.
If you work with international groups, subsidiaries abroad or non-French-speaking partners, these packages are now open to them.
